Stoner papers, 1698-1963 (bulk 1905-1963).

Correspondence, lecture notes, research materials, photographs, and newspaper clippings concerning Stoner's research of the history of the Spanish Southwest. Also present are letters from Father Anselm Weber to Rev. Henry Granjon written between 1905 and 1909. Weber writes from the Franciscan's St. Michaels Mission concerning his work, the legality of interracial marriage in the Catholic Church, and a great deal about existing Hopi relations with the government and missionaries. Weber was trying to establish a mission near Oraibi. Correspondence between Stoner, Carl Hayden, and others chiefly concerns the excavation of a Spanish mission at Awatovi and the Coronado International Memorial. Also included are index cards and notebooks of transcribed baptismal records from the Diocese of Tucson, 1741-1763, a manuscript about San Xavier Mission, and research about Fray Marcos de Niza. Photographs include San Xavier and Tumacacori Missions, Awatovi, the Moki snake dance, and Yaqui dances.
